SUMMIT A CALIFORNIA 14ER!

The perfect trip for beginner mountaineers. Leave the Mt. Whitney crowds behind and tackle its neighbor which offers more freedom for learning. Backpack through the Cottonwood lakes to the summit of Mt. Langley that sits at 14,026′.

Experience the backcountry and practice mountaineering skills to tackle higher peaks.

ABOUT IT

WHAT’S INCLUDED?

  • Food. Breakfast, lunch and dinner backpacker meals included. No snacks.

  • Crampons (if needed)

  • Ice Axes( if needed)

WHAT’s NOT INCLUDED?

  • Snacks.

  • Sleeping pad. Sleeping bag.

  • Bowl, cup and utensils.

  • Head torch.

  • Hiking poles.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Capable of walking +10 miles on challenging terrain.

  • Carry a pack between 20-40lbs.

  • Follow instructions, safety regulations and backcountry laws.

BASIC ITINERARY

Day 1: Meet at Cottonwood Lakes Trail Camp at 10am for orientation. Hike 6.2 miles and set camp lakeside.

Day 2. Early start to the summit of Mt. Langley. Descend back to Camp.

Day 3. Hike 6.2 miles back out to trailhead.

EXPEDITION TIME!

Mt. Shasta is a beautiful volcano in Northern California with incredible routes. In this ascent, you will learn route planning, weather assessment, acclimatization technique, snow travel, avalanche safety that will benefit you on your way to the summit and your future climbs. Climbers do not need to have technical experience but should be in good physical condition and have proper training for the challenge.

BASIC ITINERARY

Day 1: Meet at Bunny Flat Trailhead early in the AM, we will hold orientation with our plan for the climb and begin our ascent to camp. We will have a detailed gear check and practice snow and travel skills on the way.

Day 2. First summit attempt. Alpine start with route choice based on current conditions. Cannot guarantee good a good weather window. Typically 5-6 hours to summit with a 3 hrs descent to camp.

Day 3. Enjoy Shasta from camp and descend to Bunny Flats.

If the summit attempt on Day 2 is not possible, we will attempt to summit on Day 3. We would descend all the way to Bunny Flats instead of camp.
